My May At A Glance

In A Nutshell:
The May weather was, overall, pretty excellent - it felt like summer at times! Dean and I had a lovely little trip to Highcliffe Beach, near Christchurch and I went on a few walks with Tracy. I had my first job interview in 6.5 years, which went really well - just waiting to hear back from them to find out if I'll get a second interview. We celebrated our second wedding anniversary at the end of the month by going out for a lovely meal at a local pub with friends, Tracy and Alex. The food was great! On the actual anniversary date, we spent the evening watching movies and eating pizza and fancy chocolates!
Cinema Trips:
Bad Neighbors 2 - I really enjoyed this second installment of Bad Neighbors; it was really funny and the character roles were really well played. ☆☆★★★

Films Watched:
Vacation - This silly comedy follows Rusty Griswold and his family, as he tries to recreate his childhood vacation, of which he has fond memories. But, things don't quite go to plan... ☆☆★★★
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl - This film is rather profound, yet moving. An unlikely friendship blossoms through an unfortunate situation and we are forced to wake up to the realities of life. ☆☆★★★
Erin Brockovich - This was my first time watching this award-winning, true story film, starring Julia Roberts. I really enjoyed watching Erin uncover the big corporation secrets and work her way up at the law firm.★★★
The Good Dinosaur - You know how every Pixar film has an element of sadness in it? Yeah, well, this film is all about the sadness... It's quite a depressive tale about a dinosaur who doesn't quite fit in, so he sets out to prove his worth and show everyone what he's about! This is a sweet tale with an unlikely, but rather amusing, friendship. ☆☆★★★
Guardians of the Galaxy - This is a really fun, action-packed sci-fi film with lots of humour and an awesome soundtrack! ★★★
Sicario - Action films are not usually my thing, but the trailer looked good and I like the lead actress, Emily Blunt. This film shows us the drugs world of Mexico and what can happen to you if things go wrong. A good plot, interesting characters and just the right amount of action.  ☆☆★★★
Trainwreck - Written by Amy Schumer's own hand, she stars in this funny, slightly depressing story about a commitment phobic woman who finds love in an unexpected place. I did enjoy the film overall, but Amy's character was annoying at times and I think they made her a little too slutty to be a completely likeable character. ☆☆★★★
Hot Pursuit - This was better than I expected; the story was okay and Reese and Sofia work really well on-screen together. It was a fun watch! ☆☆★★★
Legally Blonde - This was a fun hit of nostalgia! Reese's character, Elle Woods, is really fun and care-free and tries to make it as a lawyer, proving that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. ☆☆★★★
Ex Machina - I didn't think I'd like this sci-fi film about artificial intelligence, but it's really well done and keeps you guessing who you should trust! ☆☆★★★
Cast Away - This is one of my favourite films and I love Tom Hanks! He gives a brilliant performance in this film, where FedEx employee, Chuck Noland, finds himself stranded on an island after his plane crashes into the ocean. After years of isolation, will Chuck ever make his escape back to reality and will things still be the same? ★★★

Books Read:
Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire by J.K. Rowling - This is one of my favourite books from the series are I really enjoyed re-reading it - I read it much quicker than I expected. I love reading about things that are not included in the films, such as Hermione's obsession with the house elves' welfare!★★★
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling - I wouldn't say this book is one of my favourites from the series, as it's all about setting the scene for what's to come in the next couple of books. But it does make you feel how Harry is feeling, in the sense that you feel a little out of the picture and you need to figure out what's going on. ★★★

How was your May?

  1. Ah sounds like a really nice Month for you! I’ve had a good May too, the weathers been really enjoyable and I’ve been in the garden helping my Dad out a couple of times. Your beach trip looked lovely, and the films you watched seemed interesting especially ‘The Good Dinosaur’ and ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’ which I haven’t heard of before. May just flew by, looking forward to seeing what June brings! :-) xx

    1. Yes, it was a good month! I really want to spend more time by the seaside; it's so peaceful. Luckily, I'm on holiday next month and will be spending almost two weeks sat on a private beach in Scotland! xxx
