Alternative Movie Night Ideas

I love movies. My husband really loves movies. This results in many movie nights, whether it's just the two of us, or a gathering of friends! We recently had a "Shit Shark Night", where we had some friends over and watched Sharknado, Sharknado 2 and Ghost Shark. All pretty terrible movies that you can have a good laugh over! We're already looking for more bad shark movies for the next one!
A Themed Movie Night
Choose a theme and base your movie choices, drinks and snacks around the theme! For example, you could go with zombies as your theme, have some Halloween snacks, and watch zombie films such as Shawn Of The Dead, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Or, you could choose British as your theme, get some afternoon tea snacks, and watch some great British films such as Skyfall, Billy Elliot and The King's Speech.

Fancy Dress Movie Night
Why not dress up for your movie night?! You could watch a favourite film franchise such as Harry Potter or Lord Of The Rings, and each dress up as your favourite character.

Genre Movie Night
Choose a genre such as horror or sci-fi. The Conjuring, Rec and The Babadook are some great horror movies you could watch. Make sure all of the lights are out, and perhaps you could light a couple of candles to create an eerie atmosphere!

Pyjama Party Movie Night
Why not have a movie night in your PJ's?! I'm currently planning a "Pixar & PJ's" movie night, where we will be wearing our PJ's while watching our favourite Pixar films! A PJ movie night would also work well in winter, where you could watch your favourite Christmas movies! To compliment the comfy, cosy PJ theme, I think comfort food would be the best snack accompaniment - think crisps, sweets, popcorn and pizza!

What does your perfect movie night consist of?

  1. These are great ideas! The past few years I've having movie nights with friends for my birthday instead of going out. It always seems to work out better and I think a lot of people prefer a more chilled out atmosphere rather than having to go out downtown and spend tons of money. I'm definitely going to use some of these ideas for this year, I think! My birthday is just a couple days before halloween so I think a halloween movie or horror movie night would be so much fun :)
