The Body Shop | Haul

Yes, I caved. The Body Shop are always emailing me with great % or money off offers, and up until the other day I had managed to refrain from placing an order. A few days ago, I received an email from them with their latest offer; £25 off a £50+ spend! I had to at least have a browse... Well, I did and then put a few things in my basket, managed to get exactly £50's worth of products and then got £25 off! All in all I paid £27.99 inc. delivery. This offer is still running! Here's what I picked up:

1. Nutriganics Smoothing Night Cream, £15 £7.50/50ml
I added this after adding the day cream below. I've never used a night cream before, so I thought I might as well give this a try along with the matching day cream! The Nutriganics range has been created to target the very first signs of ageing. This night cream claims to hydrate, soften and smooth your skin while you sleep. Your skin should feel plumper and more toned. It should reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. 98% of the ingredients are of natural origin. This comes in a pump bottle which I like. This product is also paraben and silcone free.
2. Nutriganics Smoothing Day Cream, £13 £6.50/50ml
I needed a new moisturiser and I decided to go with this one from the Nutriganics range. This luxurious moisturiser claims to hydrate your skin for up to 12 hours, smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles, revitalise skin and leave it feeling plumper and more toned. 98% of the ingredients are of natural origin and this also has a pump dispenser. This product is also paraben and silcone free.
3. Honeymania Bubble Bath Melt, £8 £4/300ml
I love trying out new bath products and my baths have to have a lot of bubbles, so when I saw this product I had to get it! This luxurious bath melt contains Community Fair Trade honey, made from the nectar of thousands of wildflowers. It is suggested that you drizzle this into your tub to create bubbles with a rich, floral scent. It claims to leave your skin feeling softer and smoother. I'm not overly fond of the product being in a pot as it could get a little messy and I prefer squeezing/pouring a bath product under a running tap, but perhaps you could scoop it out with a large spoon? This could ensure no mess or overuse and keep it hygienic. I haven't tried this yet but I cannot wait to see how much bubbles it will create!
4. Tea Tree Face Mask, £10 £5/100ml
My skin is still in a poor state at the moment, and I've been craving a face mask. As I use a lot of the other tea tree products in my skincare regime, I thought this tea tree face mask would be my best bet. It claims to be instantly cooling, cleanse, soothe and refresh skin. It helps to remove impurities and absorb excess oil (one of my current problems).
6. Vanilla Bliss Shower Gel, £4 £2/250ml
I love vanilla products, and this shower gel is part of the limited edition Christmas range, Vanilla Bliss. This is a soap-free shower gel with vanilla extract and Community Fair Trade honey. I used this this morning and it is rich and creamy with a gorgeous warm vanilla scent! This only cost me £2 after discount and to be honest, I wouldn't mind paying full price for it either as it's really luxurious and smells great!

Reviews to follow.

My Top 3 Hand Creams | Beauty

Hi guys! How's everyone's Christmas shopping going? All my family's gifts are wrapped and just need to be shipped off to Scotland! I've only got a few more things to get for Dean and then that's me finished.
As hand care is very important to me, especially throughout Autumn and Winter, I thought I'd share my top three hand creams with you!

1. Gloves In A Bottle, RRP £10.42 £9.26/240ml @ Chemist Direct
This is my all-time favourite hand cream! The only hand cream I've found that truly heals my hands, doesn't sting on any cuts or broken skin and keeps them hydrated.
Gloves In A Bottle is a treatment designed specifically for dry skin, with an added shielding lotion. This lotion absorbs into skin quicker than any other hand product I've ever used. This formula is quite thin but you only need a small amount at a time. Instead of replacing your natural oils with artificial oils, like a lot hand creams do, this particular hand treatment bonds with the outer layer of your skin to help lock in your natural oils and moisture. By doing this, your skin is protected against being stripped of it's natural moisture and becoming irritated, dry and cracked from harsh chemicals and over-washing. Fragrance, colourant and paraben free. This lotion will not be washed away when you wash your hands; it comes of naturally with exfoliating skin cells. It is suggested you re-apply this lotion every 4-12 hours for continued protection. This lotion isn't just for your hands; you can also use it all over your body and on your face. Because it is so expensive, I don't use it on my body, but I have recently been using it as a facial moisturiser as my last moisturiser ran out. It seems to be working well on my face and is calming my skin.
Gloves In A Bottle is an American-based brand but is widely available in the UK. It is quite an expensive product but if you shop around, you should be able to find it for a discounted price. Smaller versions are also available. To be honest, I don't mind paying a high price for this product as it is my hands' saviour!
2. Soap & Glory Hand Food, £5/125ml @ Boots
This is my second favourite hand product. This hand cream smells absolutely divine! Hand Food is a non-greasy, hydrating hand cream with shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow. It's not recommended for use on irritated or damaged skin, so I like to use this when my hands are in a fair condition. For me, this isn't an anytime product as it's not absorbed into the skin quite as fast as Gloves In A Bottle, so if I know I'm not about to do any chores or go out driving e.t.c then I will apply this cream. Only a small amount is needed. This cream is very softening on the hands and feels luxurious due to the lovely scent. I think, at just £5, this is a very good value for money product.
3. Hemp Hand Protector, £10/100ml @ The Body Shop
This best-selling hand treatment is specifically designed for very dry skin. A hard-working moisturiser with Community Fair Trade hemp seed oil. I feel this is quite a thick, intensive formula so I prefer to apply this only at night as it is quite a greasy hand cream and takes quite some time to fully absorb so it is unsuitable for anytime use. Again, only a small amount is needed. I've tried other products from The Body Shop's Hemp range and they are pretty good products, especially on dry skin. I'm just not overly keen on the hemp scent. As you can see in the photo, I'm nearly finished my tube of this cream and although I like and recommend this product, I won't be repurchasing for some time as it is also quite expensive and I am satisfied with just having the other two hand creams in my life for now. I will say that I don't like the packaging of this hand cream because the  foil/metal (?) tube can develop tiny holes and leak a little when you are coming to the end of the tube.

I'd love to hear your opinions on any of these products if you have used them before!
Look out for my latest The Body Shop haul, coming soon! I just couldn't resist placing an order this evening with £25 off a £50 spend!

Places To Visit In Scotland, Part One: Ballater, Aberdeenshire | Lifestyle

Hi guys! I thought it would be fun for me to introduce some Lifestyle/Travel posts to the blog. Today I am going to tell you about a beautiful place in Aberdeenshire, Scotland; Ballater.

(Ballater in Winter)

(The River Dee)

Ballater is a picturesque village in the heart of Royal Deeside and is situated in the Cairngorms National Park.
My first memories of Ballater were visiting my Grandad's grave which is situated close to Ballater in a lovely graveyard which is right next to a field of horses, the beautiful River Dee and lots of scenic countryside. When we get the chance to visit, we always take my Granny there, bring a picnic and go for a walk in the beautiful surroundings. I also remember visiting Ballater on on school trip when I was about 10 years old!

(Me, my mum & sisters visiting Grandad's grave in Summer, 2008. Yes, I was blonde and didn't have glasses back then!)

In January, 2009, Dean and I took a bus from Aberdeen up to Ballater on our first ever holiday together. Ballater is truly beautiful that time of year; we had lots of lovely snow and stayed in a self-catering lodge at Invercauld Lodges. I think we stayed around 3 nights. Unfortunately, we lost all the digital copies of our photographs taken on that trip and only have a few copies in a photo album, but I don't have a scanner to upload them on here for you. So, I'll share one of myself that I salvaged from Facebook:

And here is where we stayed:

(Birkhall Lodge)

Our lodge was the most isolated and private one as it faced away from all the other lodges. We even received a little welcome pack which included a miniature bottle of whiskey! We saw a variety of wildlife from our lodge, including squirrels and different birds. We spent most of our time in Ballater taking walks and looking round the village shops. We'd love to go back there again!

Things To Do & See In Ballater:

Walking: There are lots of walks and hiking to be done, including Craigendarroch; a small hill which is accessible straight from the village. I vaguely remember climbing this hill on my school trip and having to learn about different types of trees...

Balmoral Castle: The holiday residence of The Royal Family. You can take a guided tour and/or audio tour around the castle. You can also visit the grounds and there is also a coffee shop and three gift shops to check out.
Shopping: There are a variety of shops in Ballater including Dee Valley Confectioners, clothing shops, antiques shops, convenience stores, jewellery shops, book shops and more.
Cycling: There are a couple of places you can hire bikes from and there are a number of cycle trails you can choose from.
Food & Drink: There a number of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and a fish & chips take-away to choose from!

The AA Box 472: Situated 4.5 miles east of Ballater is this famous AA box; a popular landmark for tourists and travellers for over 60 years, having survived all types of extreme weather and having close connections to The Royal Family. One of only 8-10 AA boxes that still exist in the UK. You can read all about it on the website.

Well, I hope you've enjoyed the first installment of the Places to visit in Scotland! Check back soon for the next place!

A Few Of My Favourite Things #3 | Personal

It's been over a month since my last favourite things post, so I thought it was about time I did another!
Here are some of my current favourite things:
Image 1 of Dr. Bronner Organic Lip Balm
Dr Bronner's Magic All-One Organic Lip Balm in Naked, £2.70/4g @ ASOS
I did previously purchase the Peppermint version of this which I loved, but somehow it ended up going in the washing machine and so I thought I'd replace it with the Naked version; the most natural one.
It's a great lip balm. It keeps my lips moisturised for ages and I'm hoping it will help prevent dry lips as well as heal them. It doesn't have a great taste, but what can you expect from such a natural product? This product also comes in Orange & Ginger and Lemon & Lime flavour. Dr Bronner's products are all free from preservatives and petrochemically modified ingredients. They are also certified to National Organic Standards and are not tested on animals. I can't wait to try more of their products!

Maltesers Malty Chocolate Drink, 32p/25g or 4 for £1 @ Asda
As I work during the night and it's obviously a lot colder now overnight, I like to have a hot drink or two while on shift. There are lots of great low calorie instant hot drinks to choose from and I bought 4 to try in Asda's 4 for £1 deal recently. My favourite was this Maltesers one. It tastes just like Maltesers chocolates and is really delicious! I made mine with hot water but you can also have it made with milk. Only 99 calories per serving.
Click for enlarged view
Vitamin E Moisture Serum, £11/30ml @ The Body Shop
I have been using this lovely little product for months now, and I love it! It is pretty pricey, but I was fortunate enough to get it with 50% off. On the plus side, this product lasts for ages! You only need a very small amount at a time. This product is a pre-moisturiser for the face and neck. It helps give extra hydration, seal in moisture and smooth the skin. A great product for someone like me that has dry skin. I don't use this all over, just on my driest areas like my cheeks. I can't describe it exactly, but the smell is divine!

Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson, paperback, from £3.81 @ Play
I recently finished reading this wonderful, best-selling book. I'm usually quite a slow reader, unless a book really grips me; and this one did just that. The book is a psychological thriller based on Christine's life; a woman with amnesia. She wakes every day with no knowledge of who she is or where she is and this book follows her as she tries to reconstruct her memories from a journal she has been keeping. Her life isn't quite what it seems. I truly enjoyed reading this book and if you think it may be up your street, I'd definitely recommend that you read it!
The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Body Lotion
The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla Body Lotion
(This is no longer available to purchase.)
I've had this for quite a while; definitely from last year, if not before. Now, although I'm not a big fan of Winter spice/cinnamon scents, this particular body lotion is gorgeous! My favourite body lotion for the festive season. I love vanilla scents and this one is lovely with just a hint of spice! The scent seems to last all day and the lotion itself is very pleasant; absorbs quite quickly and is pretty moisturising.

Dean and I recently saw Gravity at the cinema, in 3D. This was an amazing film! Sandra Bullock and George Clooney deliver perfect performances. The film is about a medical engineer and an astronaut working together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space. The director, Alfonso CuarĂ³n, made an excellent job at conveying the characters' feelings to the viewers and making us feel like we are there with them, feeling what they feel and thinking what they are thinking. It was also visually stunning. A must-see film!

LUSH Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask | Review

Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask, £5.95/75g
This fresh face mask is targeted at spot-prone skin and features ingredients such as garlic, white grapes, free range eggs, tea tree oil and honey.
The garlic and tea tree oil have anti-septic qualities. The grapes are meant to cool and clean the skin. Honey is anti-microbal and should soften and moisturise the skin. The fresh eggs tighten the skin's texture.
The formula is designed in such a way so as not to drag or pull sore, sensitive skin.
Thankfully, the tea tree outweighs the smell of the garlic but overall the product doesn't smell brilliant, but this is because it is left to the natural ingredients to do their work!
I bought this about 7 weeks back because my skin had suddenly broken out in spots, so I wanted to try this fresh face mask to try and clear it up.When you put your fingers on the surface of the product, you can feel the elasticity of it and it has that "bounce-back" quality which is nice. The texture is quite thick and there are chunky bits of garlic in it. I found it was quite difficult to apply an even layer over my face. It is suggested to leave on for 10 minutes, then wash off. I did this the first time, and didn't notice any immediate difference. For all the other applications, I went for 20-30 minutes before washing it off.
On the second application, I took some photos for the purpose of this review.

Overall, I feel that with a few uses of this fresh face mask, it helped reduce redness and made my skin feel softer. Unfortunately, it wasn't the spot-busting product I was looking for as it didn't clear them up quickly or prevent more from appearing. It's a real shame because I sacrificed trying this one over the lovely-sounding Cupcake Chocolate & Mint Fresh Face Mask as I thought the Cosmetic Warrior mask sounded more natural and would have the best result. I think I would have at least gotten the same result from the Cupcake mask, so I wish I'd gone for that one instead!
I can't remember exactly, but I think this product has a shelf life of around 3-4 weeks and it must be stored in the fridge. I still had some product left when the use by date arrived, so for me the value for money aspect wasn't great.

Please do let me know if you have used this product before and what your thoughts on it were.
