Review: Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Prickly Pear By Barry M | Beauty

I bought this back in Summer (seems like a long time ago now, right?) for £3.99 from ASOS but never got round to trying it out as it required a base coat which I didn't have! So, I purchased Sally Hansen's Maximum Growth Plus Base + Top Coat off eBay for £3.49 inc. P&P:

Then I tried out the Barry M nail paint! I had high hopes for this product - there had been lots of great reviews about it, but it wasn't a great result for me.
Firstly, this is a very thick nail paint and I found it very uneven when applying.  Also, it smudges really easily so it's not very practical. I applied two coats.

I will say however, that the hi-shine is definitely there (although the images don't show this very well) and Prickly Pear is a nice shade, but probably too light for me. I'm not great at applying nail polish, so perhaps this one wasn't the best to try out solo!
I also bought this is Grey, so when I've tried that out I'll let you know if it's any better or worse than this shade. Also, I'm really no expert when it comes to nails and when I was looking for a base coat I was all about the price being low, so perhaps a better base coat could have improved the results?

Let me know if you have any tips and if you have tried this nail polish out, what did you think of it?

  1. Barry M is funny like that-some really liquidy polishes, others really thick! But I do love their colours, this ones especially pretty :) Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the grey!
    Lovely post, new follower :D

  2. Hi Lizzie, welcome to TJF! This is the first Barry M nail polish I've tried so I think I will have to try one of their non-gel ones too! Thanks for your lovely comment and thanks so much for following my blog! I've just taken a peek at yours and I love the look of it so I am now following you too!
    Take care x
